Every Child a Reader
Charmouth Primary School is committed to helping children discover the joy of reading. Developing the ability to read is central to children being able to access and assess the information they will come across. Learning to read enables each child to pursue their interests and gain a wider world-view.
At Charmouth Primary School, we facilitate eight themes which are associated with 'reading for pleasure'. We implement evidence-based daily, weekly and annual reading practices to help us fulfil our vision: Every Child a Reader.

Phonics
We teach phonics through Read, Write, Inc (RWI). Read Write Inc. is a phonics-based reading programme developed by Ruth Miskin, which provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing to children. It is used by more than a quarter of the UK's primary schools and is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.
