Welcome to Starfish Class!
Starfish class consists of both Reception and Year 1 children. It is an environment in which children learn and grow, developing positive relationships with other children and the adults who work with them. We endeavour to provide a creative and inclusive early years environment that encourages learning through independence and exploration.
Children are offered a wide variety of activities and are given the opportunity to share and question their experiences in a caring atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Physical development is promoted by daily sessions of “Leap into Life” or P.E. (including dance, gym and games) which we believe to be fundamental for the children’s wellbeing. Our classroom provides a range of areas designed to meet and support the children’s developing needs and current interests: A home corner encourages role-play and is used as an extension to the children’s learning. There are regular performances from the puppet theatre, produced and presented independently by the children. In our outdoor area the children have free flowing access to many interactive resources such as water play, rock pools, sand, climbing apparatus and bicycles.
Whilst inside the children’s development is nourished by key resources, such as interactive computer programmes and construction materials. Facilities for daily creative exploration and mark-making (emergent writing) are actively utilised both inside and outside our classroom. We like to get out and about and our “Wellie Walks” take place every Wednesday, come rain or shine! Favourite destinations include the beach, our local church, library, park and river. These are often the inspiration for literacy and numeracy learning, providing an endless resource for enquiry and discussion.
