Vision and Values

Vision

At Charmouth Primary School, our vision is aligned with that of the First Federation Trust.

We are proud to be a small coastal school where every child is known, valued and supported to succeed. Located on the Jurassic Coast, we use our unique setting to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding and enrich learning beyond the classroom.

We strive to provide a nurturing, ambitious and inclusive environment where children feel safe, develop confidence and are encouraged to aim high. We believe that strong relationships, clear expectations and a love of learning enable children to flourish both academically and personally.

Our aim is to prepare children not only for the next stage of their education, but for life in a rapidly changing world — equipping them with knowledge, resilience, critical thinking skills and a strong moral compass. We encourage respect for our community, our environment and the wider world, underpinned by British Values and our shared commitment to Aspire, Flourish and Achieve.

Aims

  • To provide a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum that builds secure knowledge, skills and understanding for every child.

  • To place reading at the heart of our school, developing confident, enthusiastic readers who enjoy books and learning.

  • To make the most of our exceptional coastal location and extensive grounds to enrich learning through outdoor and experiential opportunities.

  • To develop children’s character, resilience and independence so they are ready for the challenges of the future.

  • To promote positive learning behaviours through clear expectations, kindness and mutual respect.

  • To nurture children’s wellbeing and emotional development so they feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

  • To work in strong partnership with families and our local community.

  • To support, develop and value our staff, recognising that excellent teaching and leadership are central to children’s success.

  • To ensure that the First Federation Trust values — Aspire, Flourish, Achieve — underpin all that we do.

Our Values, Personal Development and School Expectations

At Charmouth Primary School, our values shape everything we do. They guide how we learn, how we treat one another and how we grow together as a community.

Our School Values

These values reflect what we want children to experience and become during their time with us.
We want our children to grow in confidence and knowledge, understand the world around them, collaborate positively with others, show respect in all they do and inspire those around them through their actions and attitudes.

Our values are woven through our curriculum, assemblies, enrichment opportunities and daily school life.

Personal Development

We believe education is about more than academic success. Our Personal Development offer ensures that children develop the character, skills and experiences needed to thrive.

We focus on:

  • Wellbeing and Community – helping children feel safe, supported and connected.

  • Cultural Capital – broadening horizons through experiences beyond the classroom.

  • Character Development – building resilience, responsibility and confidence.

  • Equality and Diversity – promoting fairness, inclusion and understanding.

  • Careers – raising aspirations and helping children understand future possibilities.

These areas are developed through assemblies, trips, clubs, visitors, reading, community links and through our carefully planned curriculum.

Ready, Respectful, Safe

Our simple and clear school expectations underpin daily life at Charmouth:

  • Ready – We are prepared to learn, we listen carefully and we try our best.

  • Respectful – We show kindness, good manners and value others.

  • Safe – We make sensible choices and look after ourselves and those around us.

These expectations help us maintain a calm, purposeful and positive environment where everyone can flourish. They are taught explicitly, modelled by adults and consistently reinforced across the school.

We have created a shared guide that helps children, parents and staff have a shared understanding of how we uphold these standards.
